Today will be the day that your geekness is measured. People will speak of the number '42' with reverence today of all days, 10-10-10. Now to understand why this is happening you have to know 2 things:
- Binary – wikipedia has a fairly decent article on the subject if you want to understand the concept in-depth but the point of it in reference to 10-10-10 is that 101010 is 42 in binary.
- The question – Most geeks that are worth their salt have either read or seen The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. It's actually a pretty good flick, I have seen parts of the original tv series made way back when but I've seen all of the recent creation that was released in 2005. Perhaps you've not seen it, and my guess is that you won't rush out to the local video store to find out what this is all about so I've taken the liberty to embed the video below.
So that should give you a little bit of an idea as to why everyone is acting so excited today. As an added bonus my church has been doing a sermon series on wisdom, a study in Proverbs, called 'Basic Instructions'. I think it somewhat poetic that everything has lined up to where today we'll be speaking about the fear of the Lord being the beginning of wisdom. I know some may say that it was planned and that the date & media hype is being taken advantage of . . . but I guess you'd have to know our pastor to know that's not the case. I love Aaron McCarter something fierce, but he's way too cool to be the level of geek it would take to piece all of that together.
