The Reflection

[dropcap]I[/dropcap]t can be a very frightening path to be on, the journey of self discovery.  Often we find that who we are may be nothing more than layer after layer of masks that we wear to fool ourselves into who we are and where we stand.  Or perhaps we do it to hide the evil that lives within us all; or we fear that ours is somehow more terrible than others that somehow we have our own special brand of evil.  Maybe we do.

I would measure though that the worst thing that you can come across on such a path is a mirror.  For it is in our own reflection that we are left to wonder at the mystery and wonder of all that we are.  We’re forced to be more honest than we care to be; admitting that there’s a problem, that the masks are indeed just masks . . . and what lay underneath is something we are terribly disappointed with.  Worse, there’s not really anything that can be done and while processing this information the anger and rage flow and hell be paid for those that are near to you.  Indeed those most dear to you pay the highest price.

This is it then, a journeys end.  Time to return to the chemistry that kills the monster within.  While it slumbers the host is dulled; perhaps neutering the host by removing the essence of him.  Dr. Jekyll is no one of note without Mr. Hyde is he?  But, it is quite clear that it is time to put the monster to bed and while the patient may slip it is best as the beast within cannot be controlled.  A milligram at a time, slowly, methodically, the reflection is shackled again and the empty host will move as a man with his passion removed.  Not hurting others, not hurting himself, but not really loving either.

The zombie army marches onward . . . one more victim found in the efforts of ‘stability’.  Not by the efforts of some government lab, but by a self-inflicted process of the mass murder of our nightmares that stare back at us in the mirror.
