Bitter Sweet . . .

Rain to the desert,
     Sunlight to a flower,
          Wind to a sail,
               Fire to the night.
All of these you have been to me.
               But the fire goes out
          The wind dies
     The sun sets
And the rain stops.
In time I fear you will depart, but
You have quenched my thirst
     You have warmed my heart
          You have pushed me along
               You have brightened my darkness
Some deserts stay dry
     Some flowers never bloom
          Some sails never fill
Sometimes the darkness is never pierced
I am thankful for the brief time
That I have had with you
You have indeed been an inspiration
You have blessed my life
     But more importantly
          You have touched my soul

I'm not sure when this was written exactly but the line "you have indeed been an inspiration" makes me think it would have been perhaps Feb of 98 when a brief relationship was coming to an end.  That individual was very encouraging regarding getting me to write.  I could be wrong but it's the only thing I can think of
