Scripture~
Deuteronomy 4, Psalm 83, Acts 6
Moses has spent a long time leading these people through their trials in bringing them out of Egypt and the discipline they faced in the wilderness. I can almost . . . his writing reminds me of a father that knows he’s about to die and he’s giving final instructions to his family. He knows that the time with his people are short . . . I think perhaps he worries about how the people will behave once he’s gone. It really comes through in reading his words.
The Psalmist speaks a lot about the future it would seem. Even now the people surrounding Israel call for her to be blotted out of history; to be wiped from the face of the planet and be remembered no more.
This speaks to the organization of the church. Any church where the pastor is expected to do everything will not survive. Most churches today are set up with one lead pastor, perhaps some associate pastors, deacons or elders, and then the church body. But what I get out of this is that the people who worked to serve came from the church body, not some outside entity. Going back to when Jesus fed the 5000; when the disciples first approached Jesus his response was “You feed them” and when it came to the actual feeding, it was the disciples that distributed the food and collected the leftovers. Christ provided the abundance; but the disciples distributed and served. I guess that’s what my point is. Our Father, God above provides the abundance, it is up to us, the body of Christ to serve others. Not only serve our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, but those who are lost in the world. To humble ourselves in service to one another; and our fellow man.
