Scripture~
Deuteronomy 2-3, Psalm 82, Acts 5
It’s all about the heart. The attitude in which you do something. Moses was not allowed to go into the promised land because he did not give praise to God in striking and giving the Israelites water. He didn’t bring the water in the spirit that God had commanded. There’s the parable of the rich young ruler who had kept all of the 10 commandments, but would not sell his possessions; and in the New Testament we have Ananias and Sapphira; they sell the land then lie to the congregation and the Holy Spirit regarding how much they sell it for. Please please please take note that they were punished not because they didn’t give all the money, but because they lied about the money they made.
I think this speaks volumes in regards to the matter of the heart. Had Moses struck the rock with the right attitude; then he would have gotten to see the promised land. I honestly feel that had the rich young ruler stated that he would do so, in going and selling all of his possessions, that Christ would have told him that he understood or that he “got it” . . . but no his heart longed for his possessions. Had this couple walked into the gathering and stated, “We made 20k off the sale of our land and we’d like to give the church 12k . . . that would have been fine! But because they lied to the Holy Spirit, they grieved it . . . this is the reason they paid with their lives.
